Water transfer printing for plastic keyboard kits
Technological Process
- Surface preparation: cleaning, sanding, degreasing, primer application.
- Basecoat: spray base color to enhance pattern appearance.
- Film layup: float patterned PVA film on water surface and activate with chemical.
- Dipping: immerse the plastic part through the film so the pattern wraps the 3D geometry.
- Rinse & dry: remove residue and dry parts.
- Clearcoat: apply protective lacquer (glossy/matte/satin) and cure.
Restrictions and Precautions
- Durability depends on primer/clearcoat quality; scratch/chip resistance lower than anodized metal.
- Not suitable for parts that experience high wear without robust clearcoat.
- Edge coverage and recesses can be inconsistent; skilled masking and dipping needed.
- Requires controlled environment (water temp, film handling) for repeatability.
- Some colors/patterns may require special basecoat for accurate appearance.
